Memory Culture in all its forms (monuments, memorials, rituals etc.) is narrative in that in constitutes statements on times past from a distinct present perspective, giving the past a specific meaning and relevance.
All concrete forms of memory culture, therefore need to be analyzed in order to recognize their specific contribution for temporal orientation as well as the limits to this contribution. This analytical approach and operation is called “de-construction” in the terminology of the FUER project.
The concepts presented in the article referenced here are useful for de-constructing memory culture. The article presents and discusses central concepts of memory culture. It is accompanied by a working sheet in PDF on the book’s DVD.
